Well we knew this was coming. Big Pharma went out of it's way to trash the best anti-viral so far in treating SARS-CoV-2 (the formal name for Covid-19), namely a drug cocktail using Ivermectin as the primary agent. The disinformation campaign against Ivermectin in the US is the largest I've seen in my 70 years.
There have been plenty of disinformation campaigns in my time, Vietnam, Iraq has weapons of mass destruction, and others, but this one is the most egregious IMHO. Why? Because an early treatment plan based on anti-viral cocktails, rolled out with the full force of the government agencies early in the pandemic, would very likely have prevented a great many of pandemic caused hospitalizations and deaths that occurred.
One of many examples from around the world of the safety and efficacy of Ivermectin is India, which has rolled out Ivermectin based cocktails to it's population.
After trashing Ivermectin BigP are putting out a new (patented, expensive) version of an anti-viral cocktail, and of course they will be saying THAT one will work.
In case you've only been exposed to the disinformation campaign, there are a few things you may be unaware of regarding Ivermectin. 1) There is a human version! (the only one physicians are prescribing for Covid). 2) Ivermectin was discovered in the 70's and has been used in treatment of human diseases billions of times. 3) It has one of the best safety profiles of any pharmaceutical in history. 4) New uses for Ivermectin continue to be discovered, including as a very effective anti-viral agent. 5) It was awarded the Nobel Prize for medicine in 2015.

The early treatment of Covid with an Ivermectin based cocktail has been extremely effective in data compiled by real doctors who followed their conscience and defied the profit motivated disinformation campaign. The continuing efforts of these doctors to treat patients with anti-viral cocktails is essentially the first open "grass roots" revolt among practicing physicians I'm personally aware of. One has to wonder why they would openly defy the directives (which they did at considerable career risk) pushed by BigP to "wait for the vaccine"?
BigP and many doctors knew anti-viral cocktails would very likely be safe, effective, and inexpensive in treating this virus, which has proven to be the case. But early in the pandemic an inexpensive, safe and effective alternative to the vaccine would have been very problematic for BigP.
There are signs some in media are waking up to what might have been done had physicians been told to "treat the patient in front of you" with anti-viral cocktails, instead of "wait for the vaccine". Here for example, a story in the New York Times:

So...what do we make of this? Public health policies should not be directed for profit. What are the chances of seeing one of the most profitable industries in the world begin putting public health ahead of profit on it's own volition? Slim to none.
We are not being informed by media, and government is to blame. But at least tobacco can no longer be advertised on public media! The fast food and pharmaceuticals industries have become an unholy alliance of "profit before health" that absolutely should be regulated.
The US is the only country in the world that allows pharmaceutical companies to advertise on television.
