Is a lot of fruit actually safe to eat?

The conventional wisdom these days is to avoid fruit, or consume it very sparingly, because fructose is bad for us. Conventional dietary advice and scientific fact are not very well acquainted with each other these days, because in fact the truth is the exact opposite of conventional advice.
